Price example: five people, one year.

Five people who each keep up to 5 GB of mail, 25 GB in all. List prices checked on 16 October 2026, billed yearly, before tax.

What five people with up to 5 GB of mail each pay for a year, with the arithmetic
PlanArithmeticTotal a year
Zoho Mail Lite, 5 GB for each person [1]5 users × US$1 per user per month × 12 monthsUS$60
Patra 25 GB plan, shared by all five1 account × US$49 a yearUS$49
DifferenceUS$60 − US$49US$11 a year less with Patra
  • Room for 10 GB each (50 GB in all): Zoho Mail Lite 10 GB is 5 × US$1.25 × 12 = US$75 a year, and Patra’s 50 GB plan is US$79. Zoho is US$4 a year less. [1]
  • Zoho’s other plans for the same five people: Workplace Standard 5 × US$3 × 12 = US$180 (30 GB each, plus office apps and file storage), Mail Premium 5 × US$4 × 12 = US$240 (50 GB each) and Workplace Professional 5 × US$6 × 12 = US$360. Paid monthly, Workplace Standard is 5 × US$4 × 12 = US$240 a year. [1]
  • Zoho’s free plan: US$0 for up to five users where Zoho offers it, with 5 GB each, for webmail and Zoho’s phone app only (no IMAP, POP or ActiveSync). [1]
  • The storage isn’t the same shape. Zoho gives each person a fixed amount. Patra’s 25 GB is shared, so one person can keep more while others keep less.
  • Sending: on the 25 GB plan, the whole account can send to 600 recipients a day, and each address to 400 recipients an hour. Zoho sets limits per user: 50 to 500 emails an hour to outside addresses, depending on sender reputation. [2]
  • Taxes and currency: both add tax where it applies. Zoho shows local prices in many countries, so its price where you are may differ. [1]

Switching from Zoho Mail to Patra.

Set Patra up next to Zoho Mail. Your mail keeps arriving at Zoho until you switch your MX record, which goes last.

  1. Step 1: Start free and add your domain

Your Zoho mailboxes keep working as before.

  2. Step 2: Add the DNS records

Add the records your admin console lists, starting with the signing key and the email policy. They don’t change where your mail goes. How to add them.

  3. Step 3: Add your people

Create mailboxes one by one or from a CSV file. Each person chooses a password with their setup link.

  4. Step 4: Turn on IMAP in Zoho Mail

Each person turns on IMAP access in Zoho Mail settings, and creates an app-specific password if two-factor sign-in is on. Zoho includes IMAP on its paid plans, not the free plan [1][3].

  5. Step 5: Switch your MX record

Delete Zoho’s MX records (their names start with mx.zoho, mx2.zoho and mx3.zoho) and add the MX record from your Patra panel. New mail starts arriving at Patra.

  6. Step 6: Bring your mail

Each person imports their Zoho mail from their setup page: they choose their Zoho region in the import list, or enter the IMAP server shown in their Zoho settings. Keep your Zoho account open until everyone has finished. Contacts move as a vCard file; filters, signatures and out-of-office replies are set up again. Move your old mail.

Is Patra cheaper than Zoho Mail?

It depends on team size and storage. At 5 GB each, Patra costs less for five people (its 25 GB plan is US$49 a year, against US$60 on Zoho Mail Lite: 5 × US$1 × 12 months) and for seven to ten, while Zoho Mail Lite costs less for one to four people and for six. Zoho’s free plan costs nothing for up to five users where Zoho offers it. Prices checked 16 October 2026, before tax.

Does Zoho Mail charge per user?

Yes. On Zoho’s paid plans every user is billed at the plan’s per-user rate, from US$1 per user per month billed yearly (Mail Lite, 5 GB). Patra charges per account for storage the whole team shares, so adding people doesn’t change the price.

Is Zoho Mail free, and does Patra have a free plan?

Zoho Mail has a free plan for up to five users on one domain, with 5 GB each, for webmail and Zoho’s phone app only (no IMAP, POP or ActiveSync), and only in some of Zoho’s data centres. Patra has no free plan: every plan is free for its first 14 days, with no payment details needed.

Can a team share mailbox storage on Zoho Mail or Patra?

On Patra, yes: everyone shares the plan’s 10, 25 or 50 GB, and you can give any mailbox its own limit. On Zoho Mail, storage is per user; Zoho offers pooled mail storage only on Workplace Enterprise for more than 1,000 users, and extra storage is assigned to one user at a time.

Does Patra work with Outlook and phone mail apps?

Yes, over IMAP and SMTP, with a setup page for each person and guides for iPhone, Android, Mac, Outlook and Thunderbird. Patra doesn’t offer POP3 or Exchange ActiveSync, and contacts stay in webmail. Zoho Mail offers IMAP, POP and ActiveSync on paid plans, plus its own phone and desktop apps.

Which has AI features, Zoho Mail or Patra?

Zoho Mail includes Zia on paid plans at no extra cost: it writes and summarises emails and suggests text. Zoho also offers an official MCP server for AI apps. Patra has no AI in the mailbox. It offers read-only AI assistant access for admins, so an AI app such as Claude or ChatGPT can look up mailboxes, domains and delivery, but can’t read mail or change anything.

Can I resell Zoho Mail or Patra under my own brand?

With Patra’s partner programme, one storage pool covers your team and every client, from 75 GB, with prices on request. Your name, logo, colour and support address appear on your clients’ admin console, sign-in page, setup pages and the emails we send them; webmail and server names still show Patra. Zoho runs reseller, MSP and ISP programmes and offers ISPs a white-labeled suite; in the product, Mail Premium and Workplace Professional can replace the Zoho Mail logo.

How do I move from Zoho Mail to Patra?

Set Patra up next to Zoho Mail and switch your MX record last, so mail keeps arriving at Zoho until then. Each person turns on IMAP access in Zoho Mail (Zoho includes IMAP on its paid plans), with an app-specific password if two-factor sign-in is on, and imports their mail from their Patra setup page. The Switch to Patra guide has every step.
